A Reimagined Road Trip
VSI Labs, the autonomous research firm and one of our esteemed event partners, is taking innovation on the road to Drive World with ESC. Get the scoop below and check back soon to track their journey in real time.
Who is VSI Labs:
Established in 2014 by Phil Magney, VSI Labs provides insights and analysis on the enabling technologies used for active safety and automated driving. VSI is considered one of the industry’s top advisors in terms of supporting R&D and planning departments within major automotive companies and suppliers worldwide.
What is the Automated Drive West:
On August 20, three engineers are making a 2,000-mile journey from Minneapolis to Silicon Valley in their 2018 Ford Fusion Hybrid. It's an autonomous voyage in VSI Labs’ research vehicle, utilizing a driving application called Map-Based Lane Keeping, enabled by HERE HD Live Maps, and OxTS GNSS localization with RTK corrections.
With a nod to the American road trip of yore, they’ll stop at Mount Rushmore, the Great Salt Lake, and other American landmarks while tackling the larger quest of understanding how their technology operates across varying terrains, weather systems, and driving conditions. At the show, VSI team members will share their experience during an Engineering Theater session (details below). Be there to hear about their travels firsthand.
